Dear Mr. Richter,

Gent has told me of your recent letter to him suggesting that the Secretary of State Hight like to come to a lecture on the University of Hong Kong to be given by Dr. Sloss. Unfortunately Mr. Hall plans to be out of the country for some weeks after the middle of the month and he therefore fears that it would not be possible for him to come to a lecture during that period. Thereafter Paril. Untury arrangements are so uncertain that he would scarcely be able to commit himself at this time. He does how ver very much appreciate your having asked him to take the Chair.

Yours sincerely,

(Sgd.) E. Melville

F. Richter, Esq., OBE.

Private Secretary.
