taken of the different places. A night was spent in Fingshan Village, whence they proceeded to Yuen Long on the following morning to investigate the conditions there. The villagers of the 10 odd villages in Yuen "ong area in the New Territories were very much agitated end annoyed at the unreasonable action of the ongkong Government in pulling down houses for the construction of an airfield. A conference was held between them and the journalists in which the village representatives expressed their fira attitude to raise objection partly for the sake of maintaining their country's territorial rights (27/ and partly of maintaining their personal interests.
At 10 a.. on 20th November, the Journalists Mission left longkong for acno where they arrived at 4 p.m. After resting for one night, they visited the Hang Yu Hospital at about 11 noon the following day. The Hospital was established by Chinese and is a magnificent hospital equipped with all sorts of medical equipment. -The management of the hospital is also good and should be commended.
At 3.30 p.m., the Mission was invited by the Commissioner of Police, Macao, to visit the Refugee Camp, and the Orphanage. It was supper time when the journalists visited those places, so a very close and factual investigation was made. ccording to the cook, each orphan is only allowed 1 additional Bowl of plain' rice. The food was also not considered good. However, the Commission of folice told the journalists that he had done all he could to help. From this will be seen the financial standing of philanthropical organizations in Macao.
A joint dinner party between the Journalists Missions and all the journalists in Macao was held at night.
On the third day (22nd Nov.) of their arrival in Yacao, the Journalists Mission begen their calls on individual organizations in acao. Opium dens and gambling houses were seen everywhere in the flourishing thoroughfares as before. The city is comparatively supty due to the fact that after the Japanese surrender most of the Chinese in Macao have returned to the ninese interior.
