"I should like to mention Sub-Inspector Scrim who was Motor Vehicles Inspector, nowloon, in Kowloon before the evacua- tion. During the short time we were in Kowloon during the war he put in some very hard work both at the Transport Receiving Depot and assembling lorries to be taken over to liong Kong. As a result of his efforts all the requirements of the Military, Police and Government e- partments were satisfied and about 300 lorries were made available for the T. R. D., a number of which had first to be repaired. He worked from dawn to darkness with little or no respite.

"9th December, 20.00 hours: L. S. Al42 Kinloch and L. S. A39 Howlitt. with two squads were called to Shaukiwan by the Divisional Inspector Shaukiwan. Two rice shops had been looted opposite the Sai Wan Ho Market. A nasty fight between a crowd of about 700 Dock Workers was avert- ed by the cool handling of the situation by L. S. A39 Howlitt who explained to the ring leaders the rice situation and promised that the Government would issue rice the following day. The crowd accept- ed Sergeant Howlitt's word and dispersed.....
He Good work was done by this sergeant, carried out dangerous work during air raids and heavy shelling, and is worthy of some recognition."
