12.30 A Police Reservist was murdered in Caine Road near

Peel Street whilst on Street Fountain duty. 14.00 Assisted by Naval Officers the Unit searched the Butterfield & Swire building for two hours in an attempt to find a sniper who was engaged in sniping the Naval Yard and had nearly hit the Commodore. It is possible that the firing came from Bowen Road. 14.00 Three houses were gutted at Aplichau by fire. Several

persons were injured by shelling directed at the fire. 14.30 Sub Inspector Scrim was wounded by a bomb splinter

in Jaffe Road outside the Station whilst engaged with L. S. A. 6 McVey in repairing a bus.

tant Superintendent of Police, Sub Inspector Taylor, L. S. A. 54 Hewitt and L. S. Information had been incorrectly given that a Military convoy could be picked up at Aberdeen but the convoy was not there and the Naval Authorities would not allow the party to proceed further than the Industrial School as it was consider. ed too dangerous to advance without a Military escort. (See Aberdeen 00.30 to 04.00 hours on the 25th for 4th and successful attempt, Entry No.1).

p.m. Col. Stewart reported that some Portuguese Volunteers

had abandoned the pill box at Stewart Road. He request ed Police to form two water front patrols, the first from the Station to the Military post at the junction of Gap Road and Percival Street and the second from the Station to the pill box at the junction of Glou- cester Road and Arsenel Street Patrol No.1 arranged on 21st December was discontinued as a result, No.2 patrol was split up as described, and No.3 patrol arranged then was maintained.
