Mr. Bailey, Officer in Charge of the Green Island Magazines under the Harbour Master states :-
"I should like to add that the two sampans which Police, troops and my- self found on the morning of the 12th were armed with some kind of automa- tic guns. I know this as they re- turned our fire. I appreciate very highly the work of Sergt. Harris & the assistance he afforded me. He showed no fear throughout the bombing & shelling, & he kept excellent con- trol of the Indians Police & Guards at this Vital Post: We were bombed and shelled almost continuously throughout daylight hours between the 8th & 13th December.
For courage & devotion to duty dis- played in volunteering & taking part in the first expedition which pro- ceeded to Aberdeen on the afternoon of December 22nd in an attempt to obtain 1000 hand grenades from the Military Magazines at Shouson Hill in close proximity of the enemy. sti~2~ 1.5.
