with about 900 men still on board. (The Japs had abandoned the ship the night before, all prisoners were down below, hatch covers on and battened down). When roll call was held at Shanghai, Sgt. Loughlin and Sgt. Campbell were missing. They may have gone down with the ship, they may have been shot in the water when they were trying to make the shore. Many men were killed in this way.
