A Proclamation concerning the levying of
assessed rates in lieu of those provided for by the
Rating Ordinance, 1901.
WHEREAS it is, by reason of enemy action and on
account of the exigencies of the military service,
impossible to levy asses sed rates in accordance with
the provisions of the Rating Ordinance, 1901:
AND WHEREAS it is deemed necessary, in order to
make provision for the maintenance of public order
and of those services essential to the life of the
community, to provide a source of revenue in lieu
of that formerly obtained from the levying of such
assessed rates:
NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY PROCLAIMED as
follows:
1.
This Proclamation may be cited as the Emergency
Rates Proclamation, 194 •
2. In this Proclamation and all regulations, rules,
orders, declarations and notifications made or
issued ther eunder

(1) The following words shall have the meanings
assigned to them by section 2 of the Rating
Ordinance, 1901, unless otherwise provided or unless
the context otherwise requires:-
(a) "Annual valuation";
(b) "Interim valuation";
(c) "List";
(d) "Machinery";
(e) "Owner";
(f) "Pier";
(g) "Rateable value";
(h) "Tenement";
(i) "Unoccupied".
(2) The following words shall have the meanings
hereby assigned to them, unless otherwise provided
or unless the context otherwise requires:-
(i) "Rating Authority" means the person appointed
by the Chief Civil Affairs Officer to give effect
to the provisions of this Proclamation.
