I attach two copies of a Treasury letter regarding the liong Kong Grant-in-Ai for the current financial year. addition to the £500,000 referred to in the Treasury letter, Hong Kong have estimated that a further £500,000 will be required over and above the provision of £900,000 to meet the estimated deficit to 31st March, 1946. I have also since heard of a Grant-in-Aid to the Hong Kong University of £100,000. It is clear, therefore, that a supplementary estimate of at least £1,100,000 will be required. A telegram is going to the Governor, Fong Kong, informing him as above and asking him for a revised estimate of the current year's deficit.

Could you let me know as soon as possible when you require the final figure for inclusion in the Colonial Office supplementary estimates which will presumably be taken in July of this year.
