The titles under Bacteriological Institute were

changed from Bacteriologist and Assistant Bacteriologist

to Pathologist and Assistant Pathologist.

Head 20. Post Office, Wireless and Broadcasting.

The provision for night watchmen under the Personal

Emoluments of the Telecommunications Section of this

Head was increased from $569 to $2,529 owing to the

withdrawal of the Military Guard from the Peak Wireless

Receiving Station.

Head 21. Prisons Department.

The titles shown in the Draft Estimates of

Sub-Inspector, Lance Sergeant and Police Constable for

the temporary Portuguese staff were changed to Chief Warder,

Principal Warder and Warder as these were considered

more appropriate.

Head 23. Public Works Department

The provision under Other Charges for rent of

offices was increased from $40,000 to $74,300 in order to

provide for the payment of the rental during the military

period. Owing to an oversight this account was not

settled before the re-establishment of Civil Government.

Head 24. Public Works Recurrent

The provision included in the Draft Estimates to

the cost of repair of typhoon damage had already

proved to be inadequate.

Item 1 was therefore increased from $150,000 to $250,000

while Sub-head 11 Item 1 was increased from $20,000 to

$55,000.

Head 29. Treasury

The omission of provision for two higher class clerks

of the Junior Clerical Service was rectified and an additional

amount of $7,933 was provided.
