Head 2. Colonial Secretary's Office and Legislature.
The title has been changed to Colonial
Secretariat and Legislature.
Head 10. Fire Brigade.
The Personal Emoluments under this Head have
been revised in accordance with the recent decision
to bring the rates of pay of the Fire Brigade into
line with those approved for the Police and to increase
the establishment of the Fire Brigade to provide for
a 12-hour day. This necessitated an increase in
Fersonal Emoluments amounting to $74,803.
As a consequence of the increase in establishment,
additional provision for clothing under Sub-head 3 of
Other Charges amounting to $30,800 became necessary.
Head 11. Harbour Department and Air Services.
The provision for the salary of the Harbour Master
was reduced from $25,600 to $24,000 as the present holder
of the post is on a fixed salary of £1,500 and not on the
old incremental scale.
Head 16. Medical Department
A new sub-head, 8A, for $32,000 was added in order
to provide for the board and lodging of 19 medical students during internship. These medical students had completed
their studies at Chinese Universities but were unable to
obtain their Hong Kong degree until they had completed
one year's clinical work. The proposal that they should
be attached to local hospitals on the internship principle
