CLANDESTINE (SECRET) NEWSPAPER IN HONGKONG

A statement from Kweilin (Kwangsi Province) gives information from an escapee from Hongkong of the underground publication of a paper entitled "China's Soul" (Chung Kueh fluen). The whole body of ardent patriots is supporting and helping it in every way. This paper does not use print and there is no fixed "format". It is sent forth to places outside H.K. such as Annam, Singapore, Burmah and the Chinese coastal regions. Its object is to expose the actual situation as regards the Japanese occupation of Hongkong. Its method of publication is by taking LO'S puppet newspaper in Hongkong using a kind of chemical to write characters upon it. After about a fortnight this kind of writing becomes visible. After the paper is sent to its destination the recipient waits a little while and then is able to read it. "China's Soul" has been appearing every 1 or 2 days (or 1 or 2 weeks) for six months. Each issue is about 100 copies and it circulates everywhere, in villages and hamlets. Lvery Chinese is a recording reporter. Each publication is copied and the distributor is an unknown individua 1. Thus absolute secrecy is maintained. The Japanese in Hongkong have knowledge of its existence and have already seized and examined it a number of times, but searching up to now has been without rasult. They have also confiscated other publications opposing the puppets but up to now "China's Soul" continues to be published as usual.
