§ 16. The salary scales laid down in the preceding sections
shall apply only to full time teachers. The salaries of part
time teachers shall be in proportion to their hours of employment.
§ 17.
In all schools not less than 50% of the staff shall
consist of local or locally trained lay teachers. Provided that
for girls' schools the Director shall have power to relax this
regulation temporarily in special cases where he is satisfied
that the required number of lay teachers is not immediately
available.
§ 18.
When the salary of a teacher is on an incremental
scale, increments are subject to confirmation by the school
managers.
Subject to the approval of the Director of Aducation,
the school managers may reckon increments in respect of approved
service actually completed prior to the introduction of this
Code but only in so far as may be required to enable a teacher
to receive not less than his previous actual salary.
$ 19.
The number and qualifications of teachers in each
school shall be subject to the approval of the Director of
Education both on the introduction of this Code and periodically
thereafter,
§ 20. After periods of not less than four years resident service, Juropean teachers shall be eligible for eight months full pay leave including the period of travel, at the discretion
of the school nanagers. Such leave may not be spent in the Colony except on special grounds approved by the Director and
subject to the following conditions
(i)
A medical certificate shall be furnished that the
teacher's health will not be adversely affected.
