I should be grateful for your views on the Governor's request in (13) that the salaries of trained Anglo-Chinese masters and mistresses in the grant-aided schools should be on the scale approved for persons of similar status and qualifications in Government Service. This principle is accepted in paragraph 12 of the Grant Code for University trained teachers and there seems every reason from a political standpoint for bringing the other trained, but non-University trained teachers into line.
As we are still not working on a basis of estimates for Hong Kong, we should have to get Treasury approval for the expenditure of £7,000 per annum involved.
