Personal Contacts.
This is not fully under way, but visits
by Chinese ngineering Students to warships have been arranged,
and with the arrival of small film projectors and film strip
units, there will be regular showings at schools, hospitals,
Chinese Chamber of Commerce Meetings. etc.
Reading Room. Premises are being sought for a public reading
room and sufficient material from Chungking and Kunming are
available to make a modest start.
General.
rrangements have been made for ..I London to
send sets of Exhibition photographs and bulk reading matter
for local display.
Publicity for "Ret eek" is now in course of preparation.
BOTANICAL & FORSTRY.

Botanical.
considerable amount of work has been done in
making the Botanical Gardens, Colonial Cemetery and Government House Gardens prosentable and it is proposed to start a nursery in the New Botanical Garden with a view to creating a stock of flowering shrubs for planting next spring. The Jolony has been denuded of flowering shrubs.
Sookunpoo Vegetable Garden.
Planting is well under way. It is
hoped that the seeds ordered from home will soon arrive.
Rearly 100 persons, who applied for vegetable seeds, have been
issed from a limited quantity brought down from Zunming, but
the larger growers in the New Territories will have to wait
for the stock ordered from home.
c. Forestry
Laichikok Depot, contains a good stock of young
trees of Ponciana egia (Flame of the Forest) and others,which
