No.18.

British Embassy,

Chungking.

7th January, 1943.

207

Sir,

I have the honour to enclose a copy of a letter addressed by Dr. Gordon King, formerly Dean of the Faculty of Medicine of Hong Kong University, to the Secretary of the General Medical Council, London, together with the original of the letter, for trans- mission, if there is no objection, to the addressees.

2. It will be noted that Dr. Gordon King raises in this letter the question of the future of Hong Kong University Medical students who have escaped to, and are continuing their studies in, Free China, and urges that this training in Free China may be recognised by the General Medical Council. I desire to support this request, and more particularly to express the hope that the necessary steps may be taken to enable these students (who are mostly British subjects by birth of Chinese race) to carry on with their medical careers in Malaya and other British Far Eastern Territories when the time arrives.

I have the honour to be,

With the highest respect,

Sir,

Your most obedient humble servant,

(Signed) Sir H. Seymour.

The Right Honourable,

Anthony Eden, M.C., M.P.,

Foreign Office,

London, S.E.1.
