THE COMMITTEE took noto of: -
(i)
a telogram from General Hayos in reply to the
Chiefs of Staff telegram despatched after the Defence Committee meetingt, stating that there was no reason for any delay in signing the surrender at Hong Kong, and suggesting that formal surrender should take place immediately;
(ii) a telegrary to Admiral Harcourt that had been
despatched after consultation with the Service Ministries and the Foreign Offico, and in anticipation of the instructions of the Chiefs of staff, telling him that he should take the formal Japanese surrender in Hong Kong at once.
a telegram from C-in-C, Hong Kong reporting
that the Japanese had signed the surrender of Hong Kong at Government House on Sunday, 16th September.
