13 Your telegram No. 888.
American Press correspondent has asked Press Attaché whether Embassy have any comment on statement by Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs at Press conference yesterday. Statement was in reply to an enquiry as to the position regarding acceptance of Japanese surrender in Hong Kong and French Indo-China and Dr Wu is quoted as having claimed that as these territories form part of the China theatre surrender would presumably he accepted by a nominee of Chiang-kai-shek as Supreme Commander in that theatre.

Correspondent was told we had no comment.
