Would you please refer to your letter No.F869/17/ 10 of 15th February enclosing a copy of Chungking telegram No.181 about xxiix the issue of allowances in lieu of pensions to ex-employees of the Hong Kong Govt. in Free China.

4. Rate of pension for non-Europeans after 10
years' service is 15/60ths of salary plus 1/720th for each complete month in excess of 10 years. Maximum is 2/3rds of salary. Commuted payment of 5 times amount of annuai pension may be granted in lieu of pension and of option in (3) above. No abolition addition.
5. Under Pension Regulation C a non-pensionable officer with not less than 15 years unbroken service may be granted an annual allowance not exceeding three-fourths of the pension which he might have been granted had he been pensionable. This may be commuted for 5 such annual payments except in cases of retirement on health grounds. This provision also applies to officers with not less than 10 years service except that "half" should be substituted for "three-fourths".
