Dear Mr. Macdougall:

I am the wife of Andrew Lusk Shields of Hongkong, senior member of the firm of Messrs. Shewan, Tomes & Company, Ltd., member of the Executive and Legislative Councils, director of the Hongkong & Shanghai Banking Corporation, and director of many other concerns in Hongkong.

Mr. Shields and I were prisoners of war from the surrender of Repulse Bay on December 23rd, 1941. Mr. Shields is still in the internment camp at Stanley, Hongkong. As I am an American citizen, I was allowed to leave with the Americans in the Asama Maru on June 29th, 1942, and was transferred to the Gripsholm at Lourenco Marques, and arrived in New York on August 25th.

My brother-in-law, Herbert D. Shields,

of "Borderlands," Culford, Suffolk, has informed me that he had a letter from you, telling him about my husband. It has occurred to me that the Colonial Office may desire more information in regard to what has happened in Hongkong since last December 8th. I am in position to give you that information, so if you desire to have it will you please address me, Mrs. A. L. Shields, care Miss Luana de Bower, 208 East 28th Street, New York City.

Faithfully yours,

Aloha Chields
