Dear Mr. Monson:
Mr. MacDougal has asked me to send you a report de-
32) tailing some of my experiences in Hong Kong, which I
(32)
herewith enclose. I feel that it is very poorly done and I have omitted a great deal that I should have told you, but it has been extremely difficult for me to write this. I hope that it will be of some use to you, and if there are any special questions you wish to ask me I shall be very glad to answer them.
I went to the British Consul General when I first got to New York, having been introduced to him by a British subject here. Mr. Haggard was not interested in me or in any report that I could make. I asked him especially to do something about the Bob Heath I mentioned in my re- port, but he was not interested in him either. I do hope that something can be done to let the family of this brave young man know of his valiant deeds and also that he was well and in the prison camp. Mr. Shields spoke to General Maltby about him when he was in Government House on Christmas morning and General Maltby said that he would look after him, but of course within a few hours, Hong Kong had surrendered and General Maltby would nat- urally be unable to do anything.
Will you be so kind as to let me know if at any time you get news of the camp at Stanley. I have heard noth- ing from my husband since leaving there, and am natur- ally greatly worried. I was pleased to have Mr. MacDougal's advice that conditions were better and that food parcels and other Red Cross Services had reached the camp.
AES: eb enclosure
Very sincerely,
Aloha Shields
