For the greater part of these periods they were confined with General Cohen in the Prisoners Cells at the Kowloon Magistracy. The Japanese seemed to consider Elston the more important owing to his age. harped on the idea that Hongkong was the centre of a great Far Eastern espionage net. They exhibited little interest in what the special Branch knew about Chungking agents. I did not discuss with Elston but Major informed re that his questioning seemed rather futile. Both were suffering from the effects of lengthy incarceration and poor food on their return to the Camp. There have not to date been any repercussions insofar as Shaftan A.S.P. was concerned.

General Cohen was released to Stanley at the same time as Major and Elston after some 15 days imprisonment. has kept his own Counsel as far as I am aware on the nature . of his questioning.

It is stated that he ordered the immediate execution of the nine Japanese soldiers responsible."
