I have the honour to transit herewith a short report on the motivities of r. .. Thorson, of the Hong Kong Police, since the outbreak of hostilities in Hong Kong up to the time of his arrival in Chungking, where he reported under my instructions.

2. Mr. Thompson displayed courage and arter prise in effecting his escape from Stanley Interament Camp to Free China, together with Mrs. Victor Priestwood. lie remained for two months in Kwangtung, in the hope of organising assistance for escupent from Hong Kong, but force of circumstancee unfortu57- ately prevented him from achieving any measure of

success.

I had under consideration the retum of Mr. Thompson to Kwangtung to continue the type of work he had initiated, but this can be cared for by the M.I.9 organisation set up by my Military ttacho, who, however, is unable to employ r. Thongson.

bassy, for police work there.
