The Norwegian Consul in Hongkong, Mr. Kick Wesman, was evacuated under the diplomatic evacuation scheme in May 1942, with Mrs. Wesman and his secretary, Miss Karen Stenersen.

Four Norwegian subjects are voluntarily interned at Stanley with the Dutch group. They went there on their own accord as they had no means of support just around the time of the occupation, and have since preferred to remain there.

The state of health among the Norwegians has been fairly good except for two deaths, Mr. Hoyem, 64 years old, who died from dysen- tary, and Mr. 0.A. Larsen, 42 years, from Malaria. The latter was 2nd Engineer of the S.S. "Proteus", and was in hospital in Hongkong when the war broke out. He was, however, fully recovered, but caught Malaria shortly before he passed away on 3rd October 1942.

The complete list of Norwegians in Hongkong is enclosed herewith. On this list, I have put a cross to the names of 14 people, who would no doubt be interested in escaping from Hongkong, to get back into work, if arrangements to this effect could be made. They are all strong healthy men, valuable to the allied Merchant Marine.

The report of my escape from Hongkong is attached hereto.

(Signed) RAGNAR BRODERSEN,

Waichow, Free China.

Secretary of the Norwegian Committee

Hongkong. 15th Feb. 1943
