1. In April 1943, a Hongkong newspaper contained a Japanese advertisement offering to purchase tungsten ore, ferro-uranium, ferro-vanadium, ferro- molybdenum, ferro-silicon, ferro- manganese, ferro-bismuth, aluminium, antimony, high speed steel, common steel, pig iron, copper, brass, mercury and all ship chandlers' goods.

In May the advertisement was changed to a request for stainless steel plate or pipe, refrigerators, paint, aluminium and turpentine.

2. A Chinese journal in Shanghai reports that the Hongkong ship

building yards damaged by the war have now been restored to normal and the
