CONFIDENTIAL

Dr. Greaves.

1111 Beaver Hall Hill,

MONTREAL.

6th December, 1943.

Dr. Greaves looks haggard and ill and, as he was anxious to depart as soon as possible for Ottawa, I did not attempt to delay him in Montreal with questions. I understand that he is carrying a special report on medical conditions in Hong Kong and the camp which he will present to the High Commissioner for transmission to London; he also bears a message from Mr. Gimson which will be similarly dealt with.

Dr. Greaves' personal position is that he is now 58 years of age and has thoughts of retirement. He does not wish to retire against the wishes of the Government if his services are urgently required; but the impression I formed was that he was hoping against hope that he would not be called again to duty in the Far East. He looked tired and exhausted and in need of a very long rest.
