Mr. Robbins confirms that he did all in his power to alleviate the prisoners' lot. This sympathetic attitude continued until a few months ago when for some reason (thought to be connected with the intensification of American air raids on the colony) his attitude has shown a marked change. He no longer takes part in camp games and has abandoned his friendly relations with the internees. He will not speak unless spoken to and will not answer questions or discuss affairs as formerly.

Like all the other internees, Mr. Robbins confirms the amazing effect on the morale of the internees of the American raids on the Colony, particularly the celebrated visit from the P.38's which stunted over Stanley camp before machine- gunning the nearby Gendarmerie headquarters, On the following day the Rising Sun was taken down from the flagpole adorning the Gendarmerie Headquarters and has never since been seen. The flagpole itself and the surrounding fence has been hurriedly painted grey.
