1. Statement Concerning Aw Boon Haw's Visit to Jaran: Aw Boon Haw

known as the

"Tiger Bain King" on October 6th in a statement to the press in Hongkong, said that during his three months' visit to Japan between July and September he had conferred with Fromior Tojo and other Japanese Government leaders; discussions contred mainly around the Chin: foodstuffs question. Av Boon Haw stated that he submitted turco mopositions to Promior Tojo, firstly, his plan for supplying China with Rangoon rice, to which Tojo agrood, and for which trans- portation plans are boing drawn up. Secondly, he pointed out to Premior Tojo his idea that tho Chinese abroad should be porwitted to manage their om remittances home through a special bank ownu 1 and operated by themselves; the third suggestion was that Japon should guido the Chinose in the Southern regions and "rant them greater

titude and action by which they will fully attain business recovery and will positively cooperate for the development of the vast resources in East Asia. Movement of Shipping Prohibited in Hongkong Waters After Midnight: According to instructions issued by the Japanoso

cuthorities, no fishing boats or vessels of any description are permitted to move in the waters of Hongkong harbour after midnight, and all lights on vessels in the harbour must be extinguished by midnight. Violators of the order would be fired on by the sontries without warning. Hongkong News, July 10th).

Changing of Strect and Other Names in Hongkong: Repulse Bay on

Hongkong Island has been renamod Midorigahama, while Queen's Road has been renamed Higashimoiji-Dori. (Hongkong Nows, July 14th and 15th).

Chinese "repatriated" fra Hongkong: Over 500 "repatriatos"

loft Hongkong for Tai Ping on July 10th by sea, and 300 by land for Kongmoon. On July 9th illustrated pamphlets wore distributed and the Governor's radio car toure the streets of Hongkong urging the populace to repatriate. On July 15th a notice was issued regarding "repatriatos", stating that residents of Hongkong who had no residential permits or rice- ration cards could registor themselves with the various district bureaux concerned with repatriation from Hongkong. The procedure applied also to those who wished to repatriate at their own expense The public wore reminded that they must leave Hongkong before the ond of July, otherwise thoy wore liable to bo forcibly "repatriated"
