FI REWOOD SUPPLIES FOR THE HONG KONG GOVERNMENT.

By letter dated January 9th we forwarded to Mr. Gent a copy of the Governor's cable of that date asking that the Colonial Office should be approached for payment of the following amounts in connection with firewood supplied to the Hong Kong Government:
(i) $11,077 short paid on shipments to end
November, 1941.
(owing to the State Bank).
(ii) $18,016 for a shipment which cleared on
November 24th
(owing to the State Bank)
(iii) 18,099 for a shipment which cleared on
December 6th and which cannot have reached Hong Kong
(owing to the North Borneo Trading Co.)
(iv) $50,000 for 400,000 piculs of firewood (cut
for Hong Kong, but not shipped) at 122 cents a picul, representing half the contract price. This would be paid by the North Borneo Trading Company to the contractors in full settlement.
