Do you expect me to know the name of every firm in Hong Kong which

has been in existence for over 30 years?

You might not have known tie name of the Kung Yau Yuen firm but you

should have known the name of Ma Teui Chiu.

Have you any proof that I ever saw this application at all?

I though you did because the application was sent on 18th January

and it was returned on the Zist of chat month.

You know of course that we are dealing with a very large number of

applications. Do you imagine the hoed of the department sees every

one of them

My application was returned with two chits. One of the chits said

that the Assistant 1.0. approved it and another chit said that the

I.0. refused the application.

You have not those chits now?

These chits were sent to Mr. M. K. Lo and then sent to the S.C.A. and

then to you and I think they cre with you now.

2. I don't think sc. Do you happen to remember who signed this chit, the

one written as from the 1.0.?

A.

A.

This chit was not signed, it was typewritten with some Chinese

characters on it.

And I think you will find that the signature was by means of a chop?

Yes.

You say you signed as the owner of a certain shop. Are you prepared

to accept my word when I tell you I have never heard of the shop?

Mr. Ma (nods).

Mr. Forrest

and also of you as J.P. Do you consider the word

of a J. P. is acceptable without question because he is a J.P.?

But I have done all that was required in the forms and I filled

A. No.

the forms properly.

What I mean is there is a word at that end of that clause "signature

of witness to the above particulars that is where you signed was it

now!"

A. "Truth to the above particulars"

Yes.

And it is reasonable to look for proof for a man as a customs official

amongst the customs officials?

A.

don't think so. I thought as long as the forms were properly filled

the permit could be obtained.
