Miss Constance Han chan Lam: I have known Mr. Forrest since the
spring of 1937, when I met him in his office in the Secretariat for Chinese affairs. we becam. gradually good friends, especially after arch 1939 when I bad a serious illness which confined me
to hospital with a few short breaks for about 1 month. During that time, Mr. Forrest visited me in hospital, and later at home, almcat twice a week, generally bringing with him Mrs.
whom also I soon became very friendly.

This friendship continued after I was finally discharged from
hospital, and after the Immiration Office was started. When the
agencies began to work, I asked Br. Forrest whether I might be permitted to start an agency; he replied that ne welcomed the suggestion, and gave me every assistance and much advice for the
proper running of the agency, telling me also that he was much troubled by the dishonesty of many of the other agencies, and woula be glad to have some run by people whom he could trust. I thereupon started the Hong Kon. Secretarial Agency, with the aid of a cousin
of mine.
I can say that never have I received any favours of any kind in connection with my agency from Mr. Forrest; he has always insisted strongly that I must follow the rules like anyone else. when some of my clients asked that their applicutiuna be marked urgent, Mr. Forrest firmly refused to do so unless evidence were produced that tusse persona could not have made application earlier than they did, or tilt some urgent reason for their departure frog Hong Kong had suddenly arisen. He insisted equally strongly that my fees should be brought dom to the new standard of fees when the new agency
system was introduced under the den
gent. Two of my sisters were engaged by Mr. Forrect for work in the Immigration Office, after he had asked me if I could eat as his Chinese secretary and my medical advisere recommended that I should not undertake the
work as it would be too renuous; this was before I started my
gacy. Mr. Forrest knew my sisters personally, though not so well
as he knew De.
