Was it a satisfactory system?
I would not have been happy working in a department under that
system.
Was it sometime after that visit that the secured officers, the
shroffs, made these remarks to you.
Not after but before my visit.
Have you any knowledge of what conditions were like after your
gisit and your report?
It had come to my knowledge that unsecured officers were acdepting money though this was against the principle of government that all officers accepting money should be secured. It came to my knowledge
that a $100 and a $10 forged note were accepted.
You said when you first went there you decided to report on your
impressions only, because obviously the department was very hard
preseed?
Yes.
Was it a scene of great confusion? Mr. Pudney has told us what he
