HOL. D. P.W.,
The tunnels immediately below and in the
vicinity of Government House have been carefully
examined.
No movement is apparent in the timber
sets of any of these tunnels.
These tunnels are kept under constant
surveillance and at no time has any settlement of
the posts occurred.
During the last fortnight seeping of
water through the lagging in the roof of a portion
of the lower dugout has been much in evidence. This
may indicate that a vein of ground overlying this
portion of the tunnel is in an unstable condition.
The fault may and probably does extend up to and
embrace the north front of Government House.
