Saturday, April 12th.
Dr. Sporer went upriver in sampan at 8 a.m. to leper hospital. Heavy rain for 2 hours. The doctor returned at 10 a.m. with a military pilot. We arrived at the hospital at 1 p.m. Unloaded lepers and started on cargo.
Sunday, April 13th.
Finished unloading cargo and started assembling beds. Could not return to Hong Kong because of high winds and presence of Japanese boats at bottom of bay.
Monday, April 14th.
Erected beds all morning.
Managed to get passage on
a blockade runner and left Ngai Mun at 4 p.m. Were shot at by Japanese at entrance to bay. Our boat was fast and we managed to evade them. Arrived in Macau at 1.15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15th.
Dr. Sporer and Mr. Curtis were of great value and did wonderful work. Their calm presence in the face of danger was most commendable.
