was in Hong Kong but since the Ambassador has been paying contributions to them, we assume that the headquarters is now in Free China. The transmission of funds to the branch of the mission in enemy occupied China has therefore been indirect. In any event, such compassionate payments are similar in kind (though vastly smaller in amount) to those paid regularly from United Kingdom funds for the relief of British prisoners and internees in Hong Kong, Shanghai and North China.
