DEPARTMENT OF MINES AND RESOURCES

IMMIGRATION BRANCH

HONG KONG,

January 22nd. 1941.

Dear Sir,

I have yours of the 9th. instant, with refer-

ence to Salaries Tax.

As you must know by now, I am a Canadian tax

payer, and pay whatever taxes my Government requires me to

pay. You have evidence to that effect.

Taxes for the year 1940 cannot be paid, as I

am unable to keep two homes going and pay taxes as well. So

soon as my wife is brought back to the Colony, and at your

Government's expense, I shall pay my full share of taxes

claimed by my Government in Canada.

The Colonial Secretary,

Colonial Secretary's Office,

HONG KONG.

Yours truly,

sa. E.S. Doughty.
