ENCLOSURES
Dear Tirpin,
We have had some correspondence in the .6.41. past about the responsibility for the cost of the
four Bangor minesweepers being built for the Admiralty in Hong Kong at the moment. You will accordingly be interested to see from the
H.K. El No 5686. (NOW) & Sostet 474. (71/40)
FURTHER ACTION
enclosed copies of telegrams exchanged with the Governor of the Colony that the Hong Kong Government are prepared to undertake the cost of all four ships in question.
In view of the very heavy expenditure with which Hong Kong is being faced over .R.P. shelters and the considerable uncertainty in which the Colony is carrying on in these times, we should like, if the Treasury agree, to respond to this decision with some renewal of H.M.G.'s appreciation of the Colony's offer to pay for all four vessels.
We are sending a copy of the enclosures to this letter to the Military Branch at the Admiralty.
Yours sincerely,
(Sgd.) .B.L. Monson.
