The place of Hong Kong in the promotion of
Anglo-Chinese cultural relations has been emphasised
in the Colony's centenary year by two recent benefactions
connected with the University of Hong Kong.
The Rhodes Trustees have decided to establish
studentships to be held at Oxford University over the
next five years by one or more Chinese or Chinese
British subjects who have graduated at Hong Kong
University. These studentships will be called "Rhodes
Trust Post-graduate Studentships" and the holders of
them will be nominated by the Governing Body of Hong Kong
University.
The British Council also has decided to
establish a number of scholarships to be held at Hong
Kong University by students from China. The holders of
these scholarships are to be nominated by the Council of
the Sino-British Cultural Association.
The appreciation of the Secretary of State for
the Colonies and of the Government and University of
Hong Kong has been conveyed to the Rhodes Trustees and
to
