The Minister of Education is also anxious to send Chinese graduate students for intensive study to Indian institutions which deal with special aspects of applied solence and technology likely to be of importance in China both during the war and in the post-war reconstruction period. Suck. subjects are sugar Technology, Textiles especially cotton, whemical engineering, Animal Husbandry, forestry and lirigution. Others can no doubt be sädeu. The Minister also wants opportunities for chinose graduates to obtain in india practical experience in metallurgy and Shipbuilding. I pointed out that my knowledge of the facilities

available in India in these respects was not ap-to-date but I promised to investigate the possibilities.

Keference was also made to medical

education, which apparently General Jolly did not discuss in any detail. Chine, would like to sond students to Indian Medionì institutions, particularly to those which apecialise in trupical diseases or diseases particularly prevalent in Lustern 2816, krrangements have aiready been made here for short courses for Chinese students in anti-malaria measures. I undertook to discuss with General Jolly and Colonel Cotter the possible extension of facilities for medical education and to submit proposals.

I ande the suggestion that the deputation of prominent educationists, to whose proposed visit I have already referret, night isit available Indian institutions and report to the Minister which would be best from the chinese point of view but the sinister said he would prefer to be guided by my advice and also would like the first batch of students to go to India, if possible, oafore tue deputation returnáš „ me agreed that research students ought to be prepared to stay for at least a year or for such further period as might be necessary to enable them to complete some apecitio line of research.
