Your telegram No.1615 [of November 30th: extraterritoriality].

Your paragraph 1. Yes. We do not wish to prolong the existence of the British courts after the treaty has been concluded and our intention is that Consuls should be allowed to finish uncontested probate cases in a non-judicial capacity. Contested cases would have to go to a Chinese court on the lines proposed in my telegram No.1533.

2. Your paragraphs 2 and 3. See my telegrams Nos. 1532 and 1533 [of November 30th]. While we agree in general with the wording you propose for real property rights, we will telegraph suggested text if Chinese accept in principle.
