The Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, in receiving on December 19th our memorandum of December 18th respecting the draft treaty on extraterritoriality, stated that it was desired by the Chinese Government that the United States treaty as well as the ino-British treaty be executed in English and Chinese, both texta to be
authoritative. We have given masent and accordingly the closing clause of the treaty wi 1 read: "3igned and sealed in the nglish and Chinese languages both equally authentic in duplicate at Washington this first day of January, Nineteen Hundred Forty-three*.
