Crops. (a) The establishment of an experimental plantation

covering upper slopes, lower slopes, level and low-lying

land. This area to be developed on approved lines with the

aim of producing a model agricultural section and of

demonstrating the use of each type of land respectively.

(b) Experiments with local crops and with new crops with a

view to the distribution of improved types of seeds and

planting material to the peasant population. (c) Demonstrat-

ion of general agricultural practices and approved methods

of cultivation, including the use of soils, crop rotation

and manuring practices. (d) Dissemination of agricultural information in the villages by means of pamphlets, lectures and advice in the field. (e) Such further development as

may be indicated.

Animal Husbandy. - (a) Establishment of an Experimental

Farm in conjunction with the Experimental Plantation (b) Demonstration of the beneficial effects of improved housing,

feeding and general care of animals (c) Production of

improved breeds by crossing and selection for distribution to the villages, in particular of boars and cockerels. (d) Dissemination of animal husbandry information to the

villagers by means of pamphlets, lectures and advice in the

field.

3. Expansion of Botanical and Forestry Department In accordance with the above the suggested scheme for expansion is as follows:-

Headquarters These to be the present Headquarters of the Department. The activities of the Agricultural Section to

be under the immediate direction of the Superintendent. his dual capacity the latter to co-ordinate afforestation and agricultural activities.

In

Experimental Area The provision of an Experimental area in the New Territories consisting of 30 acres of land, to include a "padi" area and a farm section, with a necessary background of lower slopes and upper slopes.
