I tried to get into touch with you yesterday, but I understand that you are not attending at the House for the present.
That I wanted to tell you with reference to the Question regarding the situation at Hong Kong, which you put down for written reply, is that the Government are anxious not to have to make a statement on the matters which you have mised at the present juncture; 1 therefore wished to avoid replying to your question to the effect that "it is not in the public interact, etc.". Perhaps we could have a talk about the matter some time in the near future; and if you vill let me know when' next you are likely to be in town we could meet either at the Colonial Office or in the House.
