Sir David Owen called again today and saw Sir Alan Burns, Mr. Gent and myself. Sir Geoffry Northcote was also present.
Sir Alan Burns explained to Sir David Owen the tenor of the Crown Agents' reply to our enquiry about an Engineer Secretary for him and he, after some discussion, agreed to look round and see if he could find a suitable man for himself.
It was also at Sir Geoffry Northcote's suggestion decided that Sir David Owen should be put in touch with Mr. Purvis, the Director of Public Works who has at present come on leave.
After Sir David Owen has found a Secretary we will have to make some arrangements for putting something in the press about his mission which will form a useful hook for giving him contacts with interested outside bodies such as the Chinase Association, Messrs. Jardine Mathieson and Company and Messrs. Butterfield and Swire.

Sir David Owen/also promised that we would get in touch with the Crown Agents and ask them to make a provisional reservation of passages for him on the Hong Kong boat which is expected to leave in the middle of September.
