Gentlemen,

Kensington,

W.8.

21st June, 1940.

Hong Kong 8508/1

I am informed that the Morris-Singer Bronze Foundry,

which the statue of H.M.King George VI is being cast in bronze, is now

a controlled firm.

Although the firm has reserved the necessary metal, it is

possible that without a special permit the casting in bronze may be

delayed. Do you think it advisable to take any official action in

If so perhaps you would kindly send a letter to the

Morris-Singer Co. which they can submit to the Government authorities.

the matter?

I understand that they have the labour available to carry

out the work, provided that they receive an official permit to do so.

If, however, the bronze casting has to be postponed,

perhaps you will consider the possibility of storing the plaster model

in a safer area than London.

The cast is insured for £2000 " O "O against the usual

risk of fire, but it is impossible to insure against war risks unless

you can do this under your own policy.

Yours faithfully,

(Sgd) Gilbert Ledward.
