With reference to your letter of the 15th September, 1939, 53890/39, I have the honour to inform you that I have received from the Crown Agents for the Colonies a letter, dated the 9th February, 1940, P.670, from which, though it fails in several
respects to satisfy us, we infer that the Governor of Hong Kong
has decided that in the cases covered by our protest of the 24th November, 1938, widows pensions paid in England will be paid at the rate of 3/- to the dollar. In your letter above referred
to you say that a further letter will be sent to me in due course,
and we shall be greatly obliged if in this further reply you will kindly confirm that the above inference is correct.
