3 END
No. 372.
6/-/38
5/-/38.
My Lord,
RECEIVED
4 OCT 1940
C. O. REC
GOVERNMENT HOUSE,
HONG KONG,
26th August,1940.
I have the honour to refer again to Mr.
MacDonald's despatch No.181 of 16th June, 1938, on the
subject of official residences.
2.
Dr. P.S.Selwyn-Clarke, Director of Medical
Services, has lately been allotted a house which I
consider to be suitable as a residence for permanent
attachment to that post. As you are aware Dr. P.S.
Selwyn-Clarke is now an official member of the Executive
Council, though not ex-officio, and his position is therefore analogous to that of the Director of Public
Works in 1938, to which the seventh paragraph of Mr. N.L.Smith's despatch No.278 of 5th April, 1938, refers.
3.
I do not propose to interfere with the
decision already reached regarding the quarters allotted
to the post of Director of Public Works even though its
present occupant is not a member of the Executive
Council.
4.
The question of a permanent allotment to
the post of Secretary for Chinese Affairs is still in
abeyance as Mr. North does not desire to move from his
house in Severn Road.
I have the honour to be,
My Lord,
Your Lordship's most obedient, humble servant,
Monion
Officer Administering the Government.
THE RIGHT HONOURABLE
LORD LLOYD OF DOLOBRAN,
&C.,
&C.,
