At 10.40 hrs. on the 13th April, 1940, I was at Sha
U Chung (M) in the course of my duties when I heard

the air raid alarm siren ∞ und.
I saw 3 Japanese aeroplanes come from a westerly
direction and circle over Sha U Chung on four occasions. During
each circle the aeroplanes power dived and dropped bombs and
fired machine guns.
The objective seemed to be the cargo and coolies
on the seashore.
I stood underneath a tree on a hillside about 300
feet from the sea.

Mirs Bay during the circling. One of the planes flew quite a distance over Mirs Bay. I believe it was chasing the Customs

as soon as the raid had started.
It then returned and dropped more bombs on Sha U
Chung.
The air raid lasted about 30 minutes. The 3 raiders
then left in a northerly direction.
I then walked to a house in Sha U Chung Market and
whilst on my way 2 Japanese aeroplanes appeared from a north
easterly direction and started dropping bombs on Sha U Chung.
They flew inland from the sea each time before they dropped
bombs.
