I submit in duplicate copy of Police messages
received concerning the bombing of Sha-U-Chung (Chinese
Territory) yesterday by two Japanese aeroplanes.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (New Territories)
informs me that reports he has received including one from Officer in Charge No. 2 Launch, confirm that no infringement
of British waters took place. The planes came over land
from a Northerly direction from Lung Kong, and left Easterwards
over the land. They were land planes. The bemba all fell1
above high water-mark.

Estimates of death vary from 7-30, with about 12
wounded. This estimate may be increased later as it is
reported that a number of people were buried.
Besides bombing,
it appears that some cargo coolies were machine-gunned.
No members of the Customs Staff are reported
Further explosions inland were heard.

brought into Tai Po. The wounded have been sent to the
Queen Mary Hospital.
