Thank you very much for sending me the Hong Kong Corps of Air
Raid Wardens Ordinance, which interested me very much.
With regard to our Wardens in this country, they are all
entitled to wear the h.K.P. service badge after a probationary
training period, at the discretion of the local A.k.P. Controller.
There are at present no badges or medals for meritorious service that
are peculiar to the Civil Defence Services, though the Police and Fire
Service personnel are of course eligible for the King's Police Medal
for gallantry.
Wardens would, I understand, be eligible for the Albert Medal
for civilian gallantry, which is reckoned as a very high award. There
is also the Edward medal, which is given for gallantry in industry
or in mines, and I imagine that Wardens who belong to an industrial
A.R.P. organisation could also be considered for this, though the
point, at the moment of writing, has not yet arisen.
There are also the medals of the Order of the British Empire,
for which Air Raid wardens are also eli ible I understand; the
Empire Gallantry Medal is reckoned a high award, and the second, the
meritorious service medal, might be given to those to whom the E.G.M.
was not awarded.
