Foreign Office.

S.W.1.

0. REGY 27th July, 1940.

I am directed by Viscount Halifax to acknowledge the receipt of your letter No.53846/40 of the 13th July enclosing a copy of a telegram from the Office

Administering the Government of Hong Kong regarding the purchase by the Chinese National Aviation Company of three aeroplanes from the Chinese Government.

2. Since the agreement recently concluded with Japan contains no restriction on the flight of aeroplanes into China Lord Halifax is of the opinion that there is no objection to the acquisition of these aeroplanes by the Chinese National Aviation Company and their addition to the regular service between Hong Kong and Chungking.

3.

A copy of this letter is being sent to the Air Ministry.

I am,

Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

J.C Sterndale Bennett

The Under-Secretary of State,

Colonial Office.
